More affordable than you imagine ...

If you've done your research, you'll know pricing for copy editing and proofreading can be a complicated and confusing business. Rates can be charged per word, per 1000 words, per page, or per hour.

While many freelancers charge by the hour, for the sake of simplicity and transparency, I have chosen to set my rates for copy editing and proofreading per word.  This means I am able to provide an upfront, no-obligation quote - so no nasty surprises!

*Prices quoted are valid for assignments submitted by 31st December 2024.

Business & Personal Proofreading

*Minimum charge - £15

Academic Proofreading

The word count includes footnotes, endnotes, captions, tables, headings, index, bibliography, etc.

Editing

Sometimes clients request a proofreading service but may require a level of editing as well.
I require clients to provide a sample of their work so I can ascertain the quality of the work
and what level of editing is required before providing a quote.  My editing rates start from 1.4p per word or £14 per 1000 words.

Websites

Websites are a bit tricky to price in advance.  They can be small, simple service websites or large business sites selling many products.  They usually require a combination of proofreading, some level of editing, and very often content or copy writing.  For this reason, I will need to first gain a good idea of what is required before providing a quote.

I provide a free initial discussion about your requirements before providing a no-obligation quote.

Content & Copy Writing

Need help writing a Vision or Mission Statement?  Need some website content and snappy product descriptions?
Once I have had a chance to establish what copy is required, I will provide a no-obligation quote.

Rate: POC

Retainer

Business clients and prolific writers may find it beneficial to agree a retainer fee.  Such an arrangement may be of value to clients who have a large project or ongoing work and would prefer to pay a set amount for a specified number of hours per week.

If you would like to explore this possibility, please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Calculating my Rates

My rates take into account not only my time, qualifications, and experience, but also that I am a freelance professional running my own business. Therefore, they factor in costs that an employee doesn't have to pay, but which would be covered by their employer, such as holiday and sick leave, National Insurance, pension provision, software, subscriptions, licenses, business equipment and supplies.

I review my rates yearly, with any increases taking effect from 1st January.

Payment

As I provide an upfront quote, I require payment in full before commencing work.
I accept payment in cash or by online bank transfer to:
